Peak Your Milk Production
Dairy producers know the importance of the early lactation period and impact to their bottom line from getting cows started off to a great start. Previous POET® Corn Fermented Protein (CFP) studies in mid-lactation show 4.2% increase in milk protein and a 3.8% increase in milk yield. New research results demonstrate the positive impact from replacing your rumen undegradable protein (RUP) SBM source with POET CFP, giving your cows a fresh new start to a higher peak in milk production.
Key Findings
Diets containing POET CFP demonstrated no impact to milk fat production in high producing holsteins (Figure 3) when replacing bypass SBM. Our studies did demonstrate a 9.0% to 12.6% range of increase in milkfat with when fed to mid-lactation jerseys (figure 4).
- Cows fed the diet containing POET CFP averaged an increase of 3% more milk.
- Cows fed POET CFP yielded a 3.8 lb greater peak milk than cows fed AminoPlus®.
- The 3.8 pound increase in peak milk would generate an additional $150 – 170 per cow for her lactation.

Economics
- 1 lb advantage in peak milk = 225 to 250 lbs/cow/lactation
- 3.8 lbs peak milk difference x 225 lbs/milk peak lb = 855 lbs more milk/cow/lactation
- 855 lbs additional milk x $0.18 milk price = $153.90 increase income/cow/year
Research conducted at PHDR&D (Fort Atkinson, WI) with 112 multiparous early lactation Holstein cows (Figure 1) receving either:
Diet 1: 7.8% DM POET CFP or Diet 2 7.8% DM AminoPlus. Daily milk weights collections were over a 70 day study.
