Biodiesel

Biodiesel producers turn to distillers corn oil for its low carbon intensity, domestic sourcing, and ease of use. Biodiesel is produced through a process called transesterification, which reacts DCO methanol without the need for hydrogen or high-pressure reactors.

Renewable diesel

Distillers corn oil is a valuable feedstock for renewable diesel production, offering a cleaner, domestically sourced alternative to traditional oils. Much like corn is used in the bioethanol process, DCO is reacted with hydrogen to produce high-quality renewable fuel.

Animal feed

POET distillers corn oil is commonly added to mixed feed rations as a concentrated energy source for livestock. Its high fat content supports animal growth and performance while also helping reduce dust in feed handling, which is an added benefit for both animals and producers. DCO is used across the livestock industry and is purchased by local farmers, feed mills, and integrators raising poultry, swine, and cattle.

Asphalt

POET asphalt products are affordable and safer alternatives to other options available today. Thanks to the unique properties of our distillers' corn oil, which comes from our patented BPX process, we offer several bioproduct choices in the asphalt industry: a PG modifier, a rejuvenator, or a shingle coat additive.

Sustainable aviation fuel

Distillers corn oil is an approved feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel through the HEFA pathway, where it’s refined into a clean-burning jet fuel that helps airlines significantly reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.

How do we capture DCO?

POET uses a patented backend extraction process to capture distillers corn oil during the final stages of the bioethanol production process. By extracting oil from distillers grains after fermentation and distillation, POET maximizes the value of each corn kernel while maintaining the integrity of the remaining co-products. This efficient, innovative method ensures a consistent, high-quality oil that’s ready for use in industrial oil and feed applications.
