POET Solar Farm to Harvest Power of the Sun

Thursday, June 3, 2021

Sioux Falls, SD (June 3, 2021) – POET, a global leader in renewable biofuels and bioproducts, announced today its first on-site solar farm to help power the company’s corporate headquarters in Sioux Falls and showcase its ability to construct similar facilities for others.

The installation will include 6 rows of solar panels located adjacent to POET’s campus in Northeast Sioux Falls. The solar farm will be the largest on-site solar project in the city and will generate 745,000 kWh of electricity each year, offsetting 630,000 pounds of CO2. The renewable power supplied to POET’s campus will be equal to the annual electricity use of 90 homes.

“As we face the impending climate crisis, we believe it is time for us to return to our roots and power our world using what God provided: the sun, the soil, and the seed,” said Jeff Broin, POET Founder and CEO. “This solar farm exemplifies yet another way POET is committed to creating renewable energy by harnessing the most powerful energy source available, the sun, and combining it with human innovation to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and cultivate a more sustainable future.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2021 and be completed by August.

“POET Design and Construction has a decades-long track record of successfully designing and managing a wide variety of renewable energy projects,” said Rod Pierson, Senior Vice President and General Manager for POET Design and Construction. “We are proud to offer solar project design and installation to our portfolio of client services and help our customers reduce their carbon footprint. We extremely proud to feature POET’s headquarters as our flagship venture into this space.”
