POET Cheers Michigan Proposal to Boost Consumer Access to Higher Biofuel Blends

Friday, January 14, 2022

Caro, Mich. -- POET, the world’s largest biofuel producer, today welcomed the introduction of legislation to offer more Michigan motorists cleaner, more affordable options at the fuel pump. Introduced by Michigan state Senator Kevin Daley (R-Lum), Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, the bill would offer qualifying retailers a tax credit for every gallon sold of higher bioethanol blends, including $0.05 per gallon of E15 and $0.085 per gallon of E85.

“POET is proud to work alongside Michigan farmers to expand the state’s bioeconomy, save drivers money, and protect our climate,” said Emily Boynton, General Manager at POET’s Caro Bioprocessing Plant, located in Tuscola County. “Bioethanol blends like E15 and E85 reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and replace dangerous petroleum-based chemicals linked to cancer, respiratory illness, and other health risks. Best of all, E15 and higher blends can save consumers money with lower-carbon renewable fuels grown and manufactured right here in Michigan. We applaud Senator Daley for working to reduce air pollution and reinforce Michigan’s leadership as a hub for innovation in biotechnology.”
