SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (June 16, 2026) – Today, POET, the world’s largest producer of biofuels, broke ground on its planned expansion of POET Bioprocessing – Shelbyville, doubling the facility’s bioethanol production capacity.

The bioethanol facility hosted a celebration that included area farmers and community members, as well as city and state officials. The program featured remarks from U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve, Mayor Scott Furgeson, and POET executive leaders from the company’s headquarters in Sioux Falls, S.D.

“From day one, POET has sought to unleash the power of agriculture while bringing value to farm families,” said Matt Braun, Senior Vice President and General Manager of POET Bioprocessing. “Doubling the capacity of this facility will help us meet growing domestic and global demand for American-made biofuel and bioproducts while bolstering rural economies across Indiana and beyond.”

The expansion will increase POET Bioprocessing – Shelbyville’s bioethanol production from 98 million gallons to 193 million gallons. The upgraded facility will also double its dried distillers grains and corn oil output and add 25 new full-time team members.

As farmers face low commodity prices, access to stable domestic markets for grain is essential. This expansion will create 32 million bushels of new demand for local farmers and improve access to new markets and emerging opportunities such as carbon capture, feed products, and growing demand for E15 fuel across the U.S.

“This $200 million investment is a major win for Shelby County and for Indiana agriculture. It creates stable, domestic demand for 32 million additional bushels of Indiana corn each year,” said Rep. Jefferson Shreve (IN-06). “Supporting biofuels means supporting Hoosier farmers, rural communities, local jobs, and American energy security. When Indiana corn has a stronger market here at home, Shelby County and our state are better for it.”

Jason Lucas, General Manager of POET Bioprocessing – Shelbyville, thanked his team members, Shelbyville leaders, and local farmers at the event.

Construction began in March 2026 and is expected to be completed in Q4 2027.
