Two Broin Ethanol Plants in Northwest Iowa Plan Expansions

Friday, March 10, 2006

Sioux Falls, SD - Two ethanol plants developed, built, and managed by Sioux Falls-based Broin Companies plan to expand their facilities. Otter Creek Ethanol located near Ashton, Iowa, and Voyager Ethanol near Emmetsburg, Iowa, are both pleased to announce plans to increase plant capacity.

Otter Creek Ethanol, with a current nameplate capacity of 45 million gallons per year (mgpy), will expand to 100 mgpy in ethanol production. The expansion will require an additional 19 million bushels of corn input annually. Additionally, the expansion will also result in an increase of 194,000 tons of Dakota Gold Enhanced Nutrition Distillers Products™, bringing the annual total production to 300,000 tons.

"Otter Creek Ethanol began operations in March 2004 and very quickly achieved nameplate production rate," said Dean VanRiesen, Otter Creek General Manager. "We are excited to more than double the capacity of our facility and look forward to continued success for our local corn producers, investors, and our community."

Voyager Ethanol, with a current nameplate capacity of 50 mgpy, will also expand to 100 mgpy in production, requiring an additional 17 million bushels of corn. The expansion will also increase production of Dakota Gold Enhanced Nutrition Distillers Products™ by 150,000 tons for an annual total of 300,000 tons.

"Voyager Ethanol is celebrating a very successful first year this month," said Daron Wilson, Voyager General Manager. "This planned expansion will offer even greater positive impact on the community and region."

"These two plants, both located in the northwest corner of the state, have built a great working relationship with the farmer investors and corn growers in the area," said Jeff Broin, Broin Companies CEO. "The planned expansions will benefit the growers in the area and complement the business expansion plans for each facility."
