Monday, May 23, 2005

Sioux Falls, SD – The Broin Companies today announced preliminary plans for development of an ethanol plant near Mitchell, S.D. The company has options to purchase property in the area.

“We are pleased to be working with the Broin Companies on this proposed facility in our area,” said Bryan Hisel, Executive Director of Mitchell Area Development Corporation. “The Broin organization has an excellent reputation in the ethanol industry, and we’re looking forward to working jointly with the city and county officials and utility representatives to finalize the details,” Hisel added. “There are numerous economic benefits of this project and one key reason we are especially interested is the positive impact this will have for our regional corn producers.”

The plant would be the company’s fifth built in South Dakota and 24th completed since its inception. The plant would help improve the local corn basis while providing an environmentally friendly fuel and premium Dakota Gold Enhanced Nutrition Distillers Products™ brand livestock feed for regional, national, and international markets. The plant would employ approximately 40 full-time employees with an annual payroll of approximately $1.5 million.

“We are excited about the possibility of bringing this value-added agricultural business to Mitchell and the region,” said Broin Companies CEO Jeff Broin. “This would be a remarkable economic opportunity for the Mitchell area and we are anxious to wrap up the due diligence.”
