Broin Companies’ Frontier Ethanol Plant Schedules Spring Start

Wednesday, November 3, 2004

Sioux Falls, S.D., November 3, 2004 – The Broin Companies are pleased to announce a proposed site for its Frontier Ethanol plant near Gowrie, Iowa. Frontier Ethanol, LLC would be located three miles north of Gowrie along County Road P33. Although no specific timetable has been officially announced, groundbreaking is anticipated for early spring 2005. Surveying, permitting, and other site development activities continue to move forward at a brisk pace. A sign will be erected at the site soon.

“We are excited about being involved in the tremendous growth of value-added processing in Webster County,” says Jeff Broin, CEO of the Broin Companies. “This selection of site location comes on the heels of a successful evaluation process including local community leaders, area utility representatives, county officials, and staff from the Broin Companies. This is a remarkable economic opportunity for the region and we are anxious to get construction underway.”

The plant, which will produce 60 million gallons of ethanol per year, will consume more than 21 million bushels of corn from the regional area and provide 40 highly skilled, good paying jobs with an annual payroll over $1.5 million. Frontier Ethanol will also help improve the local corn basis while providing an environmentally friendly fuel and a premium Dakota Gold Plus® brand livestock feed for local, regional, and national markets. This equates to more than 105,000 acres of regional corn production.

“We are pleased to work in partnership with the Broin Companies to get this state-of-the-art facility up and running,” says Edward McWeeny, Treasurer of the Gowrie Development and Board Member of Webster County Development. “We are very excited about the upcoming construction activity, the new jobs, and the new markets for local corn producers.”

Broin Companies projects, unlike some in the industry, have allowed local corn producers to participate as owners with over 7,500 farm families invested in Broin Companies projects to date.

Frontier Ethanol joins 21 other Broin Companies ethanol development projects, two presently under construction, in 5 states. Broin Companies plants in Iowa include Tall Corn Ethanol in Coon Rapids, Iowa Ethanol in Hanlontown, Otter Creek Ethanol in Ashton, and Voyager Ethanol in Emmetsburg, which is proposed to begin operations in spring 2005. Each of the plants constructed by the Broin Companies team is currently running above nameplate capacity and enjoying financial success.
